Many artists find inspiration in contemporary urban architecture, capturing its essence and energy using all kinds of media. Luciano Bobba creates a kind of travel diary in which he records and interprets different cities according to his own personal criteria: people and places that overlap, differing elements in distant cities, yet all linked by one common thread: global advertising communication.<BR>New York, Milan, Paris, Saigon and Hanoi: Bobba represents these cities in all of their incessant flux of images and emotions, as psychedelic visions that offer a connected series of windows onto the rest of the world. With this dynamic stratification of images, the artist has created a series of works in which he recounts the city as it is transformed by a flow of reflections through which varied stories are told. The result is a visual contamination of realistic and dream-like images, a mixing of urban styles that reveal messages and ideas that are worth reflecting upon. At first glance the urban landscape could seem disturbing and often chaotic as we are simultaneously presented with diverse objects and people that appear to seep together: at times close-up, at times in sharp focus, at times blurry with indistinct borders. While digging through these images shot as if they were layers, one discovers a visual throng that is anything but random, an “orderly” overlap loaded with precise symbolic meanings. Reflections of metropolitan life that continue their mutable, excitable flow.
