Roy Halston, 1932-1990
Roy Halston Frowick started his fashion career as a milliner, but he is best known for the sexy, modern clothing that epitomized the languid glamour of 1970s fashion. An astute minimalist, Halston’s garments were often made with as few pattern pieces and closures as possible, and the elimination of understructure provided a sense of ease and comfort. Over the span of his career, Halston’s patterns, as well as his ornamentation, became increasingly complex. Although he lost his business in the 1980s, Halston is widely considered one of the most innovative designers of the twentieth century.
