English designer, fashion icon and anti-conformist Katharine Hamnett launched her first protest T-shirt collection in 1983. Slogans like Choose Life and Save the Future are just two of the famous expressions spotted on celebrities at the time. When she discovered the environmental impact and terrible working conditions of cotton agriculture, Hamnett decided to make her brand’s production ethical and environmental. Today the same T-shirts with block lettering are made with high quality organic cotton certified by the Soil Association.
