About the work
SMS # 5: Yoko Ono, Mend Piece for John, 1968 by Yoko Ono. Cardboard, paper, plastic bag, ribbon. 2000-piece edition. Dedicated to John Lennon. The SMS Portfolios were a collaboration between William Copley & Dmitri Petrov which they published through their Letter Edged in Black Press, working with some of the most important artists of the twentieth century. The aim was to produce a new form of art journal that would bypass traditional institutions to distribute the artist's work directly to its audience instead.
About the artist
Yoko Ono As an artist, film-maker, poet, musician, writer, performance artist and peace activist for over five decades, Yoko Ono has influenced generations of people. During the 1960s, she was linked to Fluxus, a loose association of Dada-inspired avant-garde artists. Her work as a conceptual artist continues to defy traditional boundaries by creating new forms of artistic expression. (Born Tokyo 1933)
