2012 FALL-WINTER COLLECTION

Roberta di Camerino's Fall-Winter bags and accessories recall classic femininity: strong colors, all-over prints and interesting trompe l'œil.

HISTORY

The Bagonghi bag first gained global fame in 1956 on the arm of Grace Kelly, subsequently earning the devotion of Elizabeth Taylor, Gina Lollobrigida, Isabella Rossellini and Madonna.

The woman behind the Bagonghi bag is Giuliana Coen, an extraordinary innovator and the very first designer to incorporate the famous Venetian "soprarizzo" velvets— woven fabrics in rich colors that had been previously used for upholstery and ecclesiastical robes. Coen called upon the manufacturers of gondola brass to supply the bag's clasps and studs.

This revolutionary new design was marketed in an equally innovative manner: at lavish parties inspired by Venice and eagerly attended by members of the international press.

In 1980, the Whitney Museum of American Art granted Roberta di Camerino the honor of a full retrospective. Her unmistakable style still exerts a powerful influence over designers today; her unique creations continuing to command attention.
