- Details: An ashtray that hides cigarette ash and tips. Designed in 1951, the original height was three times that of the cubic module which was eventually adopted: with those dimensions, the lack of oxygen automatically extinguished the cigarette. And yet, when it went into production, the cubic shape was preferred as it made its function easily identifiable. Munari used this cubic shape as a starting point for many of his other objects, and there have been numerous variations of this particular ashtray, which today is featured in the permanent design collections of the world's most renowned museums, including New York's MoMA.
