This tray is part of a group of objects that Enzo Mari designed for Danese di Milano between 1957 and 1970, and then put back into production by Alessi as a shining example of a prolific era in Italian design.
More about Enzo Mari
His career began with research in visual perception, then evolved into the designing of children's' games, graphics, design, and architecture--different directions tied by the common theme of emphasis on shape and design. Mari was the consultant for the city of Milan's Urban Decoration, as well as president of the Association for Industrial Design (1976-1979). He won the Golden Compass award in 1967, 1979, 1987, and in 2001 for the "Tavolo legato". He has collaborated with Artemide, Castelli, Danese, Driade, Gabbianelli, Interflex, Lema, Magis, Zanotta.
