Archetypal shapes. Launched in 2007 Vigna’s Birds draw on the glass craft tradition of both Murano and Nuutajärvi. The Italian artist’s designs were drawn on the floor with chalk and required no translation for the Finnish glass craftsmen of Nuutajärvi: they both speak the same artistic language. Vigna’s Birds are not produced instantly: after being worked on at 700°C and all layers have cooled for up to 20 hours, the beak and the tail are cut and polished until the surface is perfectly smooth.
