In the early '80s Ettore Sottsass began working with blown glass, which led him to try out artisan glass production techniques while infusing a post-modern aesthetic. This vase, featuring geometric shapes and decoration reminiscent of the classic Venetian tradition, is one of this season's examples of experimentation from the visionary designer.
Ettore Sottsass (1917 – 2007) was born in Innsbruck, Austria and studied at the Polytechnic University of Turin, graduating in 1939. He engaged in the creation of furniture, design objects and ceramics, and took part in the periodic Triennals of Milan between 1947 and 1960. In 1958 Sottsass became design consultant for Olivetti and he received his fair share of recognition. In 1976 the Internationales Design Zentrum of Berlin organized a retrospective dedicated to the artist, subsequently exhibited at the Venice Biennale and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. He began collaborating with VENINI in 1988.
