About the work
Love is a Bird, Love is a Burden, 2009 by Sarah Lucas and Olivier Garbay. Resin sculpture. 250-piece edition. Artist's signature and edition number engraved on the base. The arms are a metaphor for the duality of love - embracing and struggle - generating strong synergies. The work can be turned to sit on alternative edges.
About the artist
Sarah Lucas was born in Holloway, London, in 1962 and studied at Goldsmith's College. One of the leading figures in the generation of Young British Artists who emerged during the 1990s, she has gained an international reputation for provocative works that frequently employ coarse visual puns and a defiant, bawdy humor. Her works span the media of photography, collage and found objects. She lives in Suffolk and works in London and is represented by Sadie Coles HQ, London, Gladstone Gallery, New York, and CFA Berlin.
