- Details: SMS #3: Four Title Abstracts, 1968 by Joseph Kosuth. 2000-piece edition. Joseph Kosuth is an American conceptual artist. His piece Four Titled Abstracts is four hand folded black sheets, each numbered and titled in white, "Titled (art as Idea as Idea)". Each sheet contains an entry from four different dictionaries for the word "abstract" and all are enclosed in a large black folder. The SMS Portfolios were a collaboration between William Copley & Dmitri Petrov which they published through their Letter Edged in Black Press, working with some of the most important artists of the twentieth century. The aim was to produce a new form of art journal that would bypass traditional institutions to distribute the artist's work directly to its audience instead.
