Centrepiece made from modular elements in black melamine. The fragmented geometry and the fluid shapes of Zaha Hadid's projects are now in tabletop dimensions. The Iraqi architect who is renowned for her ability to work beyond the limits of exisiting architecture and transform shapes has in fact created this modular centrepiece composed of five pieces that may be assembled in various ways. Or else used separatly, as each individual piece maintains a strong identity, just like the designer. A sculpture in and of itself.
Born and raised in an open and progressive Iraq, completing her studies in Beirut and later becoming a naturalised British citizen, Zaha Hadid was one of the greatest architects of our time, as well as the first woman to receive a prestigious Prizker Prize and to be awarded a Royal Gold Medal for architecture by the Royal Institute of British Architects. Working with colleagues in the realms of Frank O. Gehry, Daniel Libeskind and Rem Koolhaas, Zaha Hadid was a protagonist in deconstructivism, i.e. the idea of “non-architecture” that refutes the principles of Euclidean geometry to create irregular shapes of its own creation, by way of soft, curved structures achieved through the use of innovative technology and materials. Zaha Hadid’s style is fluid, harmonious and immediately recognisable, and it is upon this that she constructed her career as a starchitect, working in fashion and design, as well as architecture, creating objects defined by sinuous and effortlessly elegant lines. An iconic figure who will be remembered for her extraordinary talent and women's empowerment, because when Gae Aulenti said that architecture is a man’s craft, Zaha Hadid simply pretended not to hear.
