Cassina
Artisanal workshop Amedeo Cassina, founded in 1927, and now Cassina S.p.A., is one of the most well-loved and sought-after design furnishing manufacturers in the world. The company saw an innovative beginning to its industrial production in the fifties and became an icon in its own way, securing a commission to furnish Italy’s most beautiful and ill-fated cruise ship of all time, Andrea Doria. From then onwards, Cassina began to invent new aesthetic forms, becoming an industry leader thanks to the talented Gio Ponti, who designed two of the chairs deemed closest to perfection ever created: the 646 and the “Superleggera”. Other collaborations followed with some of the most important and authoritative names in industrial design, such as Mario Bellini, Achille Castiglioni, Vico Magistretti, Gaetano Pesce, Philippe Starck, Alessandro Mendini, Tobia Scarpa, Ettore Sottsass, and Piero Lissoni, as well great icons such as Le Corbusier and Frank Lloyd Wright. Directed by designer Patricia Urquiola, Cassina has always been synonymous with rigorous research, exceptional attention to detail, and emotive beauty.
