In 1960, a fashion house founded in Rome by young Valentino Garavani and other partners, including his father, was on the brink of bankruptcy. It doesn’t sound like a happy tale, yet it was the beginning of a success story: young Valentino found a new partner with entrepreneurial talent who left all creative decisions to him. The outcome was a collection presented at Palazzo Pitti, in Florence, in 1962, which astounded the world – an icon of Made in Italy fashion was born. The fashion house’s most emblematic trait is, no doubt, the luxuriousness of the fabrics and the elegance of its long formal dresses, from those featuring understated yet unfailingly elegant cuts, to those embellished with lace details, to short and sensual dresses.
