  • DESCRIPTION
Modelled on the Parentesi lamp designed by Achille Castiglioni and Pio Manzù, Konstantin Grcic has reworked a Flos classic, creating a super high-tech product. The light source, the main feature, has a flat, circular shape with LED surface and can be adjusted through 360° with dimmer. The shiny aluminium head slides on a floor-to-ceiling steel cable, enabling vertical movement for a suspension lamp with direct light that teams technological innovation with design history. Light bulb not included.
  • DESIGNER
A London design graduate, Konstantin Grcic was born in 1965 in Munich, Baveria, where he previously trained as a cabinet maker, and where in 1991 he set up his own studio. Drawn to the work of Castiglioni - to whom he paid tribute with his OK lamp for Flos, inspired by Eclipse - and student of Magistretti, Grcic learnt the lesson of simplicity in design and the virtuous relationship between artist and industry from his schooling in Italy. A pragmatic and rigorous designer, yet also an acute and ironic narrator, Grcic designed unique objects such as the famous Chair One for Magis, a minimal yet comfortable geometric aluminium shell, or the efficient and versatile Mayday lamp for Flos. His furniture and lighting products - made for the likes of Arnolfo di Cambio, Muji, Thomas-Rosenthal and Vitra, as well as those already mentioned above - have received prestigious awards, notably the Compasso d’Oro in 2016, and form part of the permanent collections displayed in museums such as the MoMA in New York and the George Pompidou Centre in Paris.
