    Untitled (1985) is a unique work on paper, created by the exceptional Italian artist Gianfranco Baruchello. The work forms part of a series of works that explore the world of dreams: Baruchello uses a miniature language, which is both symbolic and textual, to stimulate an analysis of the connections between thoughts and ideas. A multitude of elements populate this work: landscapes, sunsets, maps, small everyday objects, and a telephone.
  • ARTIST
    Born in Livorno in 1924 and still very active, Gianfranco Baruchello is a true legend of Italian art. During his long life he has experienced first-hand the artistic movements and socio-political changes of his time and his circle boasts friends the likes of Ileana Sonnabend, John Cage, Felix Guattari and above all, Marcel Duchamp, who was his mentor and admirer. Famous for his work with the moving image, Baruchello has also expressed himself through the assembly of objects, painting and performance. He was one of the artists of the Nouveau Réalisme movement founded by Pierre Restany and in 1966 his famous Verifica Incerta, an arbitrary montage of scenes cut from commercial films, was presented at both the MoMA and the Guggenheim in New York. Gianfranco Baruchello took part in the Venice Biennale in 1976 and exhibited at Documenta in Kassel in 1977. In 1973, he moved out into the countryside near Rome where he founded Agricola Cornelia, a farm in which he experienced a more intense connection between the land and art, and which today houses the Baruchello Foundation.
