Philippe Starck, born in Paris in 1949, is one of the most prolific and original designers of this era. Winner of important acknowledgements like the Grand Prix National de la Création industrielle and the American Institute of Architects Honor Award, he defines himself as "a Japanese architect, an American set designer, a German industrial designer, a French art director, an Italian furniture designer."
  • DESIGNER
The King of Design, the “Prince of the useless”. Ladies and gentlemen, presenting Philippe Starck, the undisputed star of contemporary design, creator of cult objects, inventor of ethereal forms and master of ready-made pop from gold guns to garden gnomes. Born in Paris in 1949 to a painter and an aeronautical engineer, Starck learned beauty and rigour from his family and grew up to become that insatiable creator of objects we know today. The prolific French architect has designed just about every kind of product out there, from the most famous lemon squeezer in the world to sailing boats, shoes, glasses, personal wind turbines, televisions and motorcycles. Starck has one rule: to be “subversive, ethical, ecological, political, spiritual”. And he sticks to it, especially from an ethical point of view, in his search for a sense to the work of the designer “who does not save human lives”. Because design must contribute to the evolution of the species and everyone must do their part.
