Paolo Venini, as his name promises, embodies the great history of modern glassmaking of Murano. Born in 1985, Paolo Venini founded the famous and award-winning glassware company Venini & C. in 1925 with Francesco Zecchin and artistic director Napoleone Martinuzzi. Working tirelessly until his death in 1959, Venini initiated an innovative reinterpretation of traditional Murano techniques, e.g. recovering the “murrina” technique and inventing new methods and aesthetics, such as the Bottiglie a Canne, his engraved vases or mosaic glass vases with multicoloured “fabric”, which took Venini to the Triennale di Milano, the Biennale di Venezia, and to some of the most important exhibitions in the world. An impressive career and a multitude of remarkable collaborations, the legacy of which continues after his death, including those with Piero Fornasetti, Alessandro Mendini, Gio Ponti, Carlo and Tobia Scarpa, Ken Scott, Ettore Sottsass, and Tapio Wirkkala, but to name a few. An entrepreneurial and creative vision that brought fame to the glass of Murano and Italian design worldwide.
