A series of forty unique, limited-edition blankets, by Rob Pruitt. Each accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, numbered and hand-signed by the artist. Migration is a complex and difficult subject, halfway between ideology and rhetoric, even more so in the current climate. Rob Pruitt tackles this theme with his trademark biting irony and profound content with his "Migration Moving Blanket, 2018", a series of extraordinary and unique objects produced exclusively for YOOX. Forty industrially produced blankets decorated with silkscreen prints of geese, the ultimate migrant animal, have been stylised and transformed into geometric patterns inspired by digital pixelisation and quilting squares, the traditional decorative elements of quilts. Aesthetic objects that cleverly harbour a fundamental reflection in the age of great migrations: unique pieces, each different from the other, as unique and individual as the stories of the people who find themselves having to leave their homeland for other countries, with their baggage of fears and expectations for the future.
An intense, eclectic artist, Rob Pruitt moves between two and three dimensional elements with remarkable ease and through all types of expressive media. Born in 1964 in Washington, D.C. and artistically part of the Pruitt Early duo in the 1990s, he lives and works in New York and is represented by Gavin Brown's Enterprise and the milanese Galleria Massimo De Carlo. He studied at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington and at the Parsons School of Design in New York and has exhibited in the most prestigious exhibition venues in the world, with solo exhibitions at the Kunsthalle in Zurich in 2018, at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit in 2015, at the Aspen Art Museum in 2013, at Dallas Contemporary in 2011, and group exhibitions at the Yokohama Triennale in Japan in 2017, at the Tate Modern in London, at Punta Della Dogana/Palazzo Grassi in Venice and at the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 2009 and at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles in 2013.
