Patricia Urquiola

An award-winning architect and designer of Basque descent but born “professionally” in Milan, celebrated as the designer of the year and decade by the world’s biggest magazines and by exhibitions in the world’s leading museums, from the MoMA in New York to the Vitra Design Museum, Patricia Urquiola is evidently one of the most important designers of the present day. After having graduated at the Polytechnic University of Milan, where she studied with Achille Castiglioni, later becoming his assistant, Patricia worked for De Padova with Vico Magistretti, going on to opening her studio in Milan in 2001, and becoming Artistic Director of Cassina in 2015. A prolific figure in all sectors of design, Patricia Urquiola produces architecture and installations for the likes of BMW, Missoni, Moroso and H&M, and collaborates with some of the world’s most prestigious design companies, such as Alessi, B&B Italia, Flos, Georg Jensen, Kartell, Lissoni Associati and Molteni. Boasting a minimalist style with a distinctly feminine approach, Patricia Urquiola knows how to play with styles to give her projects rigorous formality and that sense of exoticism and sensuality that makes them irreplaceable cult items.
