  • DESCRIPTION
Silk Eye Mask x Louise Bourgeois by Third Drawer Down, a collaboration between Third Drawer Down and The Easton Foundation. An insomniac for much of her adult life, the Louise Bourgeois silk eye mask was 'dreamt' up by Third Drawer Down director Abigail Crompton as an ode to the artist who described the state of being asleep as "paradise". The reversible silk strap reads "Key to insomnia: peace or trust", pulled from the back of one of Bourgeois’s Insomnia drawings from the mid-1990s that was made in the middle of the night in an effort to find sleep. The reversible design echoes one of the artist’s fabric drawings from 2003, paying tribute to the artist’s connect to textiles, sewing and also her love of fashion.
  • ARTIST
The brilliant Louise Bourgeois, one of the greatest artists of all time, a woman who travelled through and inhabited the twentieth century absorbing it, changing it in her image and relaunching it for our new century. A late, very long and ever-changing career has led her to produce immersive installations alongside giant sculptures, drawings that are close to both scribble and genius, objects, thoughts, words and visions. A solitary path, almost surly in its methods but empathetic in its results, a parallel to the vicissitudes of life, from the difficult father figure to the embroidery work with the other women of the house, the duties of marriage and children, a very long life. But everything in Bourgeois' art originates from her childhood that "never lost its magic, never lost its mystery and never lost its drama". Hence the nightmare with the giant spider and the ensuing hysteria go hand in hand with sweet embroideries, fantastical animals and beautiful red daisies.
