The faces of Mimmo Paladino
The playful embrace of art
Mimmo Paladino is an artist with immense historical, iconographic, archaeological and mythological knowledge.
Knowledge that gives a great spiritual and psychological intensity to his work through the forms and aesthetics of ancient art.
A multifaceted artist, famous all over the world for being one of the leading exponents of Achille Bonito Oliva's Transavanguard movement.
He is a painter, sculptor, engraver, creator of impressive installations, as well as minimal and refined drawings.
An example of the latter is "Giocosa Mente", an animated tribute to Bruno Munari's 100th birthday designed for Danese, from which six splendid images of faces full of playful lightness are supported by a solid, historical and compositional structure. These images are now available on YOOX.
In paying homage to Munari, Paladino takes on the role of someone who knows how to combine a childlike vision with rigorous technical and theoretical preparation, giving us a series of colourful numbered images that embrace us with their authoritative elegance.
Mimmo Paladino, born in Paduli in 1948 but lived in Naples and then Milan, is one of the greatest Italian artists, from the Transavanguard to his more recent monumental public works. He has exhibited in major museums around the world and at the Venice Biennale.
