Jonathan Adler
Happy chic: an elegant, fun and anti-depressant style. This is the light-hearted approach of Jonathan Adler, the most famous American ceramicist of our time, who translated his refined, kaleidoscopic imagery, inspired by pop culture, hip-hop, contemporary art, and fashion - from ceramics to design in the broadest sense of the word. Coloured pills placed between sensual lips, avant-garde geometry and splatters of gold: modern grafted onto rustic, bold juxtapositions against the sin of minimalism, Andy Warhol combined with Gio Ponti, Yves Saint Laurent and Madonna. Born in 1966 in New Jersey, Jonathan Adler was a failed lawyer who liked to dabble in pottery in his spare time, his first collection launched at Barneys New York. Today, he boasts a vast collection of objects, ranging from ceramics and furniture to lamps, rugs and accessories, with a boutique in Manhattan and dozens of stores across the globe. A huge accomplishment for a so-called talentless student, today a celebrated artist and bastion of irreverent and playful luxury!
