What are they doing at Memphis? Simple: Post Design! Memphis was the extraordinary leader in post-modern design, founded by Ettore Sottsass who opposed the greyness of the previous decade and dictated the legendary style of the eighties, which still influences our own tastes today and those of new generations of designers. However, Memphis was also and above all a cultural movement, and it was in this way, to differentiate itself from yet ensure continuity with its exceptional history, that Post Design was born. Designed by Ettore Sottsass with Alberto Bianchi Albrici, Post Design is a brand and a gallery in the centre of Milan, inaugurated in 1997 with the “Cosa fanno quelli di Memphis?” exhibition. Post Design therefore carries forward the impetus of its origins, producing and exposing the famous names of the elite Memphis, such as Sottsass, Michele de Lucchi and Nathalie Du Pasquier, as well as other designers, architects and artists from all around the world. New talents, both from young and experienced designers, also share in the company’s spirit and philosophy.
