Artemide
Less than ten years after it was founded in 1960 in Pregnana Milanese by designers Ernesto Gismondi and Sergio Mazza, Artemide won the first of its five Compasso d'Oro awards, of which one was for career achievement, after producing one of the greatest and most original lamps in the history of modern design: Eclisse by Vico Magistretti. From then on, the history of Artemide is a story of accomplishments and inventions revealing the talent of mankind, from the aesthetic and practical perfection of the Tolomeo desk lamp by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina, to the exceptionally refined origami-style lamps designed by Issey Miyake, and the scenographic spacial creations of Ross Lovegrove, as well as numerous other examples by the likes of Achille Castiglioni, Gio Ponti, Karim Rashid, Richard Sapper, and Matteo Thun. Artemide's lamps and chandeliers are a seamless blend of aesthetic appeal, high quality materials, and technical innovation, and are a design emblem known and appreciated across the world, displayed in some of the world’s largest and most important museums.
