This traditional long-sleeved T-shirt was known as ‘Telnyashka’ in Russian and was given to the Navy forces starting in the 20th Century. After the Second World War, Captain Vasily Margelov was appointed to modernise the uniforms of the Airbourne Units so he decided to introduce the ‘Telnyashka’.
It was designed in 3 different colours: deep blue and white stripes for the naval infantry, light blue and white stripes for the Airborne and the Spetsnatz (elite Units), and red and white stripes for the National Guard.
